About us
This website is the online communication hub for the Merri & Edgars Creek Parkland Group (MECPG). At the junction of the Merri and Edgars creeks in North Coburg there exists a tranquil oasis of native vegetation, walking paths, free golf driving range and open parkland for the off-leash exercising of pets. Set aside years ago for the F2 freeway project by VicRoads, the new Craigieburn bypass has rendered this open space available for disposal by the State Government.
Residents in the area have long contributed to the funding of parkland through taxes and used the open space for recreation, the Moreland City Council (and previously as Coburg City Council) has maintained the parkland and yet the State Government is offering Moreland City Council only the opportunity to purchase the land. We, the MECPG, advocate the gifting of the land by the State Government to the city of Moreland.
Why should residents be forced to pay for land which has been financially supported through our State taxes and local rates for the past 40 years?
Public meetings show strong support for the gifting of this open space to Moreland. A committee of local residents has been established to aid in achieving this goal through the application of political pressure to those responsible. There is no good reason why this land cannot be gifted to Moreland and plenty of good reasons why it should. We urge all residents of Moreland and beyond to actively support us in our quest to ensure land currently available to the public is not locked up as a private development!
